Daddy / Father / Grandpa Joe / Uncle Joe is planning to move to Maine and live in Cynthia's downstairs spare room. He wants to distribute his furniture and household goods. Claire is going to take photos of things, (right, Claire?) and I will post them here.
We can all comment about what we want, what we don't want, memories of lying on the floor under the dining table etc, do a little discussing of practicalities, and help to figure out where everything actually should go. Mom told Janice that she should have *something*, but then Janice told me she didn't want it. So this is an ongoing online family get-together, to be fair and respectful and not to be burdened with things we always hated, like me and the couch.

I like the couch fine, but don't really care hugely about it. We'll need something big to bring back the clock which I've offered a home here. What I said I didn't want was to start taking things a year ago when Mommy wanted me and Max to - we thought it was too soon and rushed. I am mostly interested in the boys having pieces of furniture made by Daddy. As for me, I do fancy china and silverware mostly.

ReplyDeleteI'd not really thought about this stuff - literally - before, I guess it was partly denial. Now I am , I'm expecting Claire's inventory to help with jogging our memories. And I'm not actually that desirous of china, there are granddaughters setting up house that may need it. I do like the little sewing cabinet but it could also go to a granddaughter. David is interested in rock collections.

ReplyDeleteI'll repeat the other here: Fritz mentioned the triangular table to me, but Caroline has mentioned as well...so they'll have to sort that out. Of the pieces of furniture Daddy made that the boys might be interested in, there are also the big multi-drawer chest at the end of the living room and the curved front table in front of the window. Maybe the table the stereo stuff is on?
Where will the photos appear? directly in the comments line??
And as I said in the other, in which I won't write anything further, so things don't get too complicated to follow...the coffee table was already given to me, one of the boys might want that.

ReplyDeleteThe photos will each be a post. I Think in terms of specific items, we should wait for each picture to be posted and comment on each item, to limit confusion. Thoughts? (For example, I also have feelings for the triangle table but if I post it here then people will have to fish through all these comments to find that out). Ellen is working this morning but will possibly be able to have the next posts up by tomorrow. If not, I can supplement as moderator.

OK, good idea, no random remarks until the actual photo appears. But some people do tend to wait (like when they had to do homework) and may not check the photos as they appear, so do the first to comment have an advantage? Maybe with the pieces with multiple interest get arbitrated later once everyone has had a chance to post on that item, like within a week? Then the multiples can go into a second round of some kind.
ReplyDeleteI agree about waiting- we all have busy schedules. No preference in terms of first comment. I can't update the blog from my phone (no pictures will attach) but I will do so this afternoon, barring any complications. First up: big furniture.
